Welcome to the PE Department
At Pittville School we believe ‘There is a place for everyone in Sport’ At Pittville School we feel that PE and sport are key to developing a young person’s confidence, self-esteem, teamwork, commitment, resilience and understanding of boundaries. We are keen to enrich the lives of our students by allowing them to explore their talents, to lead healthy lifestyles and to develop positive working relationships with others. We encourage all pupils to think independently and creatively, whilst understanding that success and progression come with hard work. Students explore a wide range of competitive and recreational sports and many go on to compete in school fixtures and also outside of the school setting. We believe in giving all pupils, irrespective of their academic or physical ability, the opportunity to discover and develop their physical potential through a balanced and developmental programme of activities. We do so in the belief that physical education in a safe, supportive and challenging environment is a vital component in the development of children’s physical and emotional health and well-being. This, we believe, includes qualities such as enjoyment, tolerance, co-operation and the development of expertise. The PE curriculum will provide pupils the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and ideas to perform progressively and successfully. We also give pupils the opportunities to develop their leadership and officiating skills. Reflection on their own and others’ performances and thinking about ways to improve is important to their development. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Extra-curricular opportunities are provided for all in the Pittville PE department. This gives the children the chance to represent their school and to demonstrate talents they might not necessarily be able to in the classroom. The department’s priority is to be fully inclusive and to give every child the opportunity to play regardless of their ability. In this way, more children can feel part of a team and more children can feel proud of representing the school. Pittville School’s core values are integrated into PE; Respect – For ALL no matter their ability, gender, ethnicity or specific individual needs Honestly – When competing in Sport and PE when representing the school Kindness – Help staff and peers at every opportunity…. it is easy to be kind! Furthermore, the following Olympic and Paralympic values are promoted through PE and School Sport at Pittville School: · Friendship · Courage · Inspiration · Determination · Equality · Respect · Excellence We are proud of the fact that Pittville PE achieves maximum participation for all children in all lessons, whilst recognising the need for equal opportunities on the grounds of gender, ethnicity and children’s specific individual needs. Within a caring and supportive environment, we believe in encouraging positive relationships between groups and individuals while providing challenge and stimulation for students to make progress.
