Modern Day Slavery

Oct 11, 2019

On Thursday 17th October the organisation ‘Alter Ego’ will be performing a play to year 9 and year 10 students on modern day slavery.

In 2018, 61 victims in Gloucestershire were referred officially to the Home Office. There is reason to believe the actual number of victims is much higher than this number.Of the 61, around 70% were children under 18.

The most common forms of exploitation identified in these 61 referrals were criminal, labour, sexual and domestic servitude- these will be looked at in the stories Alter Ego will tell.

The performance will cover four individual stories related to Modern Day Slavery, around:

car washes

nail bars

sexual exploitation

domestic servitude

The performance lasts about 40 minutes and is followed by a question and answer session which is expected to last about 20 minutes.
