Curriculum Summary

The curriculum model at Pittville School is provided through a two weekly timetable of 50 lessons, each of 1 hour duration.

Our curriculum at Pittville School offers all students, regardless of ability, gender, cultural or social background, access to learning experiences which will equip them to become skilled, knowledgeable and employable citizens, ready to make a positive contribution to society.

Every student has access to an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum, providing a strong foundation for progression into further/higher education and employment. Where possible the curriculum is personalised to take account of a student’s prior attainment, identified learning needs or styles, career aspirations and chosen progression routes. Underpinning the curriculum is a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, personal, learning and thinking skills. In addition, we aim to enhance the communication skills of students so they become confident adults and competent lifelong learners in the rapidly changing world of the twenty first century.

At Key Stage 3 all students undertake a core programme of English, mathematics, science, modern foreign languages and humanities, including religious studies. In addition students participate in design technology, ICT, PE and the performing arts (drama, dance, art and music). During tutor time and assemblies, students also participate in PSCHE activities to enhance their understanding of the broader curriculum.

At Key Stage 4 all students have a core programme of English, mathematics, science, PE and ICT. A wide variety of academic and vocational subjects are also offered to students through our ‘options’ curriculum which allows students to further personalise their own curriculum experience with four additional subject choices.  A varied programme of citizenship, religious studies and work related learning is also studied which complements the PSCHE programme in Years ten and eleven.
