Duke of Edinburgh Award

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Since 2017 we have been running the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the school. This is a highly lucrative and challenging extra-curricular award that is recognised all over the world by educational bodies and professionals.

Split into four sections – skill, physical, volunteering and an expedition - the award encourages independence, resilience, team-work and a sense of adventure!

With a dedicated team of trained members of staff, we are able to offer the DofE completely in-house – keeping the costs down and the experience personal. We have taken over a hundred students on various two and three day overnight expeditions to the Malvern Hills, Black Mountains, Mendip Hills, Brecon Beacons and of course into the Cotswolds on our very doorstep.

This year we had around 60 students registered on the two awards and are always looking to grow and strengthen the scheme, embedding the culture of the DofE firmly into the fabric of the school.

Please contact mlawton@pittville.gloucs.sch.uk for further details, or if you wish to volunteer your services for the school. You can also visit dofe.org for more information on the award as a whole.

The Expedition

The Expedition section of the DofE Award takes the students out to wild and beautiful locations to expose them to The Great Outdoors! They must plan, navigate, research, document, demonstrate camping skills and work together to pass this section, spending 6-7 hours out and about with limited instruction or adult interaction.

We take great pride in being able to run this section completely free of outside providers. Mr Lawton (Hill and Moorland Leader and DofE Manager), Mr Nicholls (DofE Leader and Expedition Supervisor) and Miss Daniel (Experienced First Aider), have now racked up almost a dozen expeditions between them, taking the students out of their comfort zone and into the unknown, but with enjoyment and safety at the heart of these adventures.

Please see the photos to get a feel of what lies ahead if you choose to participate in this once in a lifetime experience.
